Barn Racing update

Arenacross, or “barn racing” as some refer to it as, is one of the most exciting forms of dirt bike racing. With a full gate of anxious racers, tight tracks and corners and lots of jumps, you just know something entertaining is about to go down…..

Something certainly is going down, as the 2009/2010 BC Arenacross Championships kicked off two weeks ago at Heritage Park in Chillwack, BC. And where was Yamaha? At the front, of course …..

Dusty Klatt (2) and Kyle Beaton (12) lead the field in Chilliwack last weekend.

Yamaha Canada/Red Bull/Blackfoot/Fox Racing’s Kyle Beaton traded wins with USA’s Cole Siebler on opening weekend, and then split wins with his teammate, Dusty Klatt, at Rounds 3 and 4 last weekend. Normally, Klatt is racing a 450, but because of the tight confines of AX racing, he chose to drop down to a YZ250F.

After a long year of racing AMA SX and Canadian Nationals in 2008, Klatt decided to take last winter off and regain the fire heading into ‘09. So it’s good to see “PugLife” in early racing spirits and battling his young teammate Beats at Chilliwack. I’m sure local fans are happy as well, since Dusty hasn’t raced BC AX since 05 (?). A few weekends of paint rubbin’ may be just what the Campbell River native needs to ignite the fire inside….

Dusty gives the new 250F two thumbs up!

It’s also good to see Beaton back with Blackfoot. When he signed with BF last fall, everyone (including himself) expected to see Beaton earn his first major championship in ‘09. Unfortunately, after a productive winter in Georgia working alongside Colton Facciotti and Jean-Sebastien Roy, Beaton crashed at the first national in Kamloops and broke his wrist. After some ups and downs, though, the Surrey, BC rider won motos at Sand Del Lee and Walton, and then closed out his season by winning his first Montreal SX in front of 50,000 fans.

That late season surge earned Beaton another chance with the winningest team in Canadian moto history, Blackfoot. Once again, all the ingredients are there … now Beaton just needs to keep it on two wheels. Check out Blackfoot’s complete lineup for 2010 here.

Follow results, reports and photos of our boys in BC AX at DMX and MXP. The next round takes place on December 19. If you live within a reasonable distance, head on out to the barn in Chilliack and support the sport!

Go Team Go!
